ASP: HPP

So having been ill for the last few weeks, I had struggled to get out on the water, and although I was dying (no pun intended) to get out on the water, I knew I needed to rest up in order to recover. But finally, I was back!

Having organised some coaching with Den, we headed up to HPP for some female only ASP coaching. The weather was less than appealing and I'm pretty sure there were some tears on the first few rides purely at how cold the water was! However, a;though it was December (and most sane people are opting to hide inside), we still chose the river. After a run down the course playing in every feature, it was back to the top where we were joined by Sophie.

The rest of the morning was spent predominantly working on McNasty's as well as throwing some ends and just enjoying being on the water. It was so fun just to plug really hard and then loop huge, as it feels a long time since we had this luxury.

With the weather still quite horrible and very grey, we headed to the Peak Desperate Measures Shop for lunch, hot drinks and mince pies. Here we were then able to discuss the theory behind some new moves as well as have a general catch up now we had been joined by Nicky.

Before heading down to inlet again, we quickly tried some of the moves on the flat but were soon drifting towards the white water. In order to adapt my McNasty to more features, I began attempting the cartwheel initiation as well as the basic set up. On top of this, from practise in the pool, I also tried lunar orbits. These are very different to on the flat and it was hard not to over think them but it is definitely a move to keep working on especially with the aim of Selections.

At the end of the day, we headed downstream to twin waves. Currently it is quite trashy and holds you in a small pit, but when you have it worked out it is really fun!! If you hit it right, loops can go huge and although tricky McNasty's are good too. Having been trying back loops in inlet, we then attempted them in twin, but discovered the first challenge was actually getting backwards in twin! On my third attempt, I managed to get one fairly close, which was really exciting.

To finish of the session, we headed to troll hole. In the relatively trashy feature, I practised the cartwheel initiation of McNasty's as well as lots of ends. Each of us were throwing cartwheels, split wheels and even tricky woos! Often overlooked as a move, they are actually key to increasing points by being able to link moves and therefore definitely worth the time (and braving the brain freeze) to practise them.
