SportsAid Athlete Workshop

After doing a presentation for the BCU Midlands, and completing the training for my Level 1 Coaching Award, I headed down to London for an athlete workshop, hosted by MyLotto24.

When we arrived at The Kia Oval, we were greeted by the team and met all the other athletes who have also been supported by MyLotto24 and SportsAid. After an introduction, we split off into groups for mini workshops.

Our group begun with nutrition, with the Lunchbox Doctor, and I found this really useful, learning new little tricks to optimise diet. After discussions on the advancing ideas on what we should actually eat, and why, we then got to try green smoothies and home made cashew butter, which we prepared. During the session, I learnt lots and have so many new ideas on how to fuel my body! Following a short break, we then had a social media workshop, with BBC journalist Fiona Cotterill, to help use it to its best (and how not to use it). Again, this was really useful and really fun as we checked out each other's social media.

Back in the events room, overlooking the pitch, we had lunch, socialised and then had (lots of) group photos. After lunch and a Q&A with athletes, it was back into our groups for a mentoring session - I was with Leon Taylor (silver medallist at 2004 Athens Olympics). Despite the wide variety of sports, there was so many matching ideas and challenges that we face.

The day was awesome and so good to meet other athletes at a similar stage in their career to me, as well as those far in front that can offer advice and tips. Throughout the day I met some incredible athletes, including Tanni Grey-Thompson, Leon Taylor and Serita Solomon! Thank you to SportsAid and MyLotto24 for the continued support and great events like this that help give us that little bit extra.
