World Cup #2 Salt - Opening Ceremony

Last night, all athletes, team leaders and some of the public attended the official opening ceremony of the second 2014 ICF World Cup in Salt, Catalan. After a quieter ceremony in Millau, it was a surprise to have such a spectacular event.

The evening began in the local theater with the official speeches from the mayor, flag processions and dancing (finishing with a "family photo"). Despite not understanding all the speaking, it was great to have an official ceremony and thank everyone who has made it happen.

After the ceremony, we expected to walk to the hall for the meal. However, we were greeted with crowds of locals, a local drum group and fire breathers! All the paddlers and some locals were then serenaded through the streets closed by local police officials with drums, dancing and fire. At the meal, we were treated to some Spanish food before heading back to the accommodation.

The event highlighted the awesome atmosphere within freestyle Kayaking and it was great to see so many locals enjoying the ceremony and see the excitement for the competition!
