Burners: Hurley

This year we have been spoilt with the weather, so with the first proper frost of the year, we were all slightly slower than usual to get ready. It was barely 0 degrees as we headed down the icy alley to the fields, which crunched as we walked. The small amount of water in our boats was beginning to freeze and the mist still hung over the river. However, it was sunny and we were all eager to go paddling.

The morning was spent at the weir, which was on 2, working on moves and also having a couple of competition rides. Despite the chilly weather and brain freeze when you rolled back up, it wasn't as bad as we thought, helped a lot by the sun.

I was trying a Jed for the session after trying it in the pool a few times. To start with it was difficult as it responded a lot differently to my Rockstar, but I soon got the hang of it on the wave and it carved a lot faster. Although it still felt strange in the hole gate.

By the end of the session, I was spinning, doing roundhouses and trying blunts.

We then heading back to Jacko's for video analysis, a review on the Classic and setting focuses for the next session.

In the second session, I swapped back to my Rocckstar for a comparison. It felt considerably warmer in the afternoon and the lighter boat made blunting easier. I also began trying more wave moves in the hole gate, and am also looking to work on hole moves after not really doing many since the summer.

It was really great to be on the water, and even though it was cold, it was also very sunny and the queues were fairly short!
