Hurley and Lee Valley

After quite an eye opener last week at Burners of the work still needed, and the immediate need to train at Lee Valley, for the second week running we did a double session at two different venues.

We started of at Hurley, and although sunny, and not that cold of the thermometer, the wind chill combined with colder than normal water, made it bitterly cold. None the less, I was eager to get in lots of practice. It was a nice, sticky three and the eddy was fairly empty so it was looking to be a great session.

I spent the start of the session trying to chunk moves together to begin to form sections of a ride, upping the intensity and adding the pressure of a time limit. However, as the session continued, the success of my moves began to drop as I tried to figure out adapting blunts to Hurley again. With each week, I seem to have a more successful side, which can be a little confusing, but in the long run should be beneficial.

By lunchtime, we were well on our way to Lee Valley, and although we knew it was going to be busy, were eager to make the most of the very limited time of just one hour!

After a quick flat water warm up, we were soon blasting down the course to the wave to be used for selections. With such a short time and busy eddy, it was another fairly stressful session, but a very good simulation of competition team training. Training at Lee Valley is as much mental as physical, and with it being very different to Hurley, there is still lots of work to be done to adapt and get ready in time.
