The event, hosted by the Leam Boat Centre, is an annual event aimed at whitewater, freestyle and recreational paddling. After attending the event myself for my first ever Freestyle session back in 2012, when asked if I would help with some coaching, I agreed straight away!
To start, Harry, Kim and I, ran a "flatwater freestyle" session for a small group. This focused mainly on double pumps, cartwheels and felixs. After lunch, we also did two freestyle sessions on the course. We started near the bottom of the course, initially practicing the technique of a cartwheel in the less powerful water. After we moved back up to the top of the course to continue practicing, before heading down to the main feature for the final section.
We then stayed on the water afterwards to continue paddling, before watching the boaterX from the eddy.
Overall, it was a great day and awesome to be helping increase numbers in freestyle, pushing our sport forwards. Thank you to Leam Boat Centre for such a fun, friendly and relaxed event, as well as all the other retailers for supporting the sport.
