Mawddach Paddle Sport Fest

Almost immediately after my last exam had finished, we were on the road to Dolgellau for a local paddle event. The event, held in Barmouth, is now in its 5th year and always has a great turn out, with a great community feel and also a fair amount of paddling.

The main event is a 6 km paddle up the estuary and back in two Canadian canoes lashed together into a kata-canoe, each with teams of 6.

Unfortunately, due to winds over 30 mph on the Saturday, the main event was cancelled but I did manage to still do a flatwater display for the crowd.

Sunday was therefore a very busy day! With two raft races and a marathon, as well as lots of stalls and games for everyone to enjoy. I did two displays throughout the day and also took part in the raft race. There was also rock climbing, zorbs and taster sessions for kayaking.

It was a great event, and felt very welcomed into the community! I also felt honored to have been invited and to be able to introduce so many more people to a glimpse of Freestyle Kayaking.

All the money raised is invested back into the community and local services, making it an incredible event and even better that involves lots of water based activities.
